Help Create Positive Change
Outside In depends on a variety of resources each year for both professional services and routine daily assistance. Our Volunteer Program consists of: community members, medical professionals, business community leaders, academic interns, Federal Work-Study students, and consultants. These people are placed in programs throughout the agency, based on current program needs and compatibility.
Commitment and Requirements
Our clients are best served by consistent and reliable volunteers. The Volunteer Program is currently recruiting people willing to make at least a 100 hour commitment to the agency, with a preference of at least one (3-5 hours) volunteer shift per week (Medical providers are not required to make weekly commitments). There are some opportunities such as community work-days, or office support positions that will accommodate volunteers with less time to give.
Age Requirements
You must be 21 years of age or older to volunteer at Outside In. GOOD NEWS: Virginia Woof our Dog Daycare program will accept volunteers 18 - 21. All potential volunteers under 21 must meet with the program manager to ensure a proper fit. There are some office support positions for those individuals with high maturity and excellent skills in organization and computers and are under 21 years of age.
Federal Work Study Program
Outside In offers student employment through the federal work-study program. FWSP applicants may apply for any of the currently open positions. The Volunteer Manager will consider all FWSP applications and make decisions based on our need, our budget, and the qualifications of the applicant. Since our clients derive greater benefit from consistency in staffing, students who are willing to make longer term commitments (e.g., an entire school year) will be given preferential consideration. All students who are interested in a Federal Work Study placement must contact their school and work out all details related to work study prior to applying for an Outside In position.
Internships
Outside In welcomes a variety of students working on academic internships or Graduate Practicums. All Interns and Graduate Practicum students must still complete 100 hours of service. Outside In does not provide financial reimbursement for internships, but will cooperate with your school to verify work hours for academic credit and provide evaluations required by the programs.
Process for volunteering:
