Mission and Values
Five Decades of Change
Since 1968, Outside In has supported youth experiencing homelessness and other marginalized people as they move toward improved health and self-sufficiency. Driven to meet the changing needs of those it helps, the agency has created an all-inclusive and integrated system of cutting edge and sometimes controversial wraparound services that has transformed and saved thousands of lives over the years.
- We help homeless youth and other marginalized people move towards improved health and self-sufficiency.
Compassion for our clients, our coworkers, and ourselves
Courage to do this work, mirroring the strength of our clients
Responsiveness to individual and community needs
Acceptance of challenges and the need to reduce harm and suffering
Service to those who have experienced inequities and struggled to access care
Persistence in our enduring vision for human growth and change
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Outside In recognizes that our clients and employees have unique experiences rooted in and affected by race, culture, gender and gender identity, age, belief systems, social class and income, sexual orientation, physical ability, and other aspects of individual identity. We acknowledge the beauty, strength, and opportunities that come from such diversity as well as the destructive and pervasive consequences that come from prejudice and oppression. We are deeply committed to dismantling overt and covert oppression, building personal and institutional diversity, and fostering inclusiveness.
As a patient at Outside In, the dignity, compassion, and respect that I was shown by staff truly had a lasting impact on me and directly resulted in me wanting to get involved in helping my community.
Housing at Outside In is so much more than a roof over your head. The staff is helpful and amazing. They were always there for us anticipating our needs. Finally, we weren’t hungry anymore and we were safe.
I feel safe at Outside In. I love Outside In people. How they love us, care for us. The wonderful and fresh food, the health care, the accommodations, the hospitalities. People talking to me, listening to me. Changing lives. It is a great moment.
