Board of Directors: Values Statement

The Board of Outside In is committed to the continued growth and support of the organization as a critical resource to the Portland metro area. We strive to provide strategic leadership and guidance in partnership with the Executive Director and Senior Management Team. The members of the board volunteer their time to provide stewardship for an organization that was founded to help young people with no access to physical and mental healthcare and has grown into an invaluable source of comprehensive health and wellness care for houseless youth and other marginalized communities.

Our service as board members is rooted in the following values:

  • Partnership and community
  • Hope, integrity, and compassion
  • Respect for and belief in each individual’s potential for change and growth
  • Hiring and retaining a diverse staff to better serve and reflect our clients and community
  • A committed stance on issues of social justice and anti-racism
  • Awareness of the effects of trauma and a commitment to the principles of trauma-aware care and leadership

We are always looking for board members with skills, expertise, and/or lived experience which complement and expand the board’s capabilities. At its best, a board of directors reflects the stakeholders and community where it works and serves. To accomplish this, we encourage applications from current and former Outside In clients and members of the communities that the organization serves.

Board service is a volunteer effort and does require a time commitment each month. In order to make that service more accessible, financial resources are available to help with expenses such as transportation costs, childcare, technology and others that may be incurred as part of serving as a member of the Outside In board.

Your unique experience is important and we welcome you to join us in guiding the organization’s future. For more information about joining the Outside In Board of Directors, contact boardpresident@outsidein.org
