Clinic Services

Laboratory Assistant (Downtown & East Portland)
Assist the functioning of clinic lab by performing in-house laboratory tests ordered by healthcare providers, storing and preparing patient specimens sent for outside testing, accurately and thoroughly maintain laboratory log of tests performed, maintaining laboratory equipment and run control tests, and ensuring proper labeling, storage, and authorization of all specimens.
Commitment: One 4-hour shift per week
Shifts: Monday – Friday between 8:30am and 5:00pm

Care Coordination Assistant (Downtown & Remote)
Help our patients access important medical screenings, remote health resources, and follow-up care!
This role supports health care coordination for our patients, supervised by our clinic staff. Volunteers engage with patients via phone, email, and in-person to schedule appointments, provide information and track health screenings. Must be comfortable learning new software or have previous experience with health records systems.
Commitment: One 4-hour shift per week (flexible)
Shifts: Monday – Friday between 8:30am and 5:00pm

Syringe Exchange Assistant (Downtown)
Provide respectful, non-judgmental space to people who inject drugs, facilitate needle exchange, and supply harm reduction (HIV/Hepatitis C prevention and safer injection) education and supplies to clients, as well as engaging clients in harm reduction and health discussions and remaining up-to-date with information about issues and interventions used in harm reduction, HIV & Hepatitis C prevention, and alcohol and drug treatment.
Commitment: One 5-hour shift per week
Shifts: Monday – Friday, 12:00pm – 5:15pm

Fron Desk Clinic Assistant (Downtown)
Out Clinic staff members are looking for volunteers to provide front desk and health care administrative support at our downtown location. Spanish language skills a highly valued but not required. This role makes a big impact in ensuring all our patients have access to medical resources.
Commitment: One 4-hour shift per week (flexible)
Shifts: Monday – Friday between 8:30am and 5:00pm

Social Services

Café Services Assistant (Downtown)
Join our culinary crew and support Outside In’s talented chefs prepare healthy, hot farm-to-table meals for young adults experiencing homelessness. As a café volunteer, you have the unique opportunity to connect with at-risk youth, to cultivate a safe and healthy environment for them, and even learn and improve your kitchen skills.
Commitment: One 3-hour shift per week
Shifts: Monday – Friday, lunch (10:15am – 2:00pm) or dinner (3:00pm – 6:00pm)

Food Donations Assistant (Downtown)
Our Food Program staff need support stocking and organizing donated food items  in our free community food pantry. This role is incredibly helpful to ensure we can offer fresh, nutritious food to our clients experiencing food insecurity.
Commitment: One 3-hour shift per week
Shifts: Tuesdays, Thursday, and Friday (mid-day)

Community Food Pantry Assistant (East Portland)
Help us launch a  food pantry program at our East Portland location! Open to everyone in the community, the pantry wimll offer free grocery items to those with food insecurity, and your help to coordinate pantry access will make a big positive impact.
Commitment: One 3-hour shift every other week
Shifts: Thursday afternoons

Career Zone Assistant (Downtown)
Support young adults accessing our Employment Resources Center with job preparation and searching. Help maintain job databases, advise on resumes, and support clients with employment resource options.
Commitment: One 3-hour shift per week
Shifts: Mondays & Thursdays, 10am – 1pm

Learning Lab Tutor
Provide one-on-one GED, high school, and early college-level tutoring for houseless or low-income students ages 16-24 at our Education & Employment Resource Center.

Education Resource Center Receptionist
Provide a warm welcome to the Employment and Education Resource Center (ERC) for new and existing participants and connect them with ERC staff.  Help connect other community members stopping by to other relevant resources.

OHP Enrollment Assistant
Assist team in ensuring healthcare access of uninsured clients eligible for Oregon Health Plan (OHP) by using government databases to submit and update OHP applications, updating agency tracking sheet of application statuses, notifying clients of application status and upcoming renewal date, and remaining up-to-date on OHP information and processes.

Tattoo Removal Assistant
Support tattoo removal program operations through assisting medical providers to administer tattoo removal treatment by clinical and administrative support, including rooming the patient and preparing them for treatment, ensuring the patients’ comfort and privacy, answering frequently asked questions about aftercare and policies, and maintaining a tidy and stocked treatment area and waiting lobby.

Podiatrist (DPM)
Provide podiatry medical services to low-income, homeless, and/or uninsured clients, referred  by our Primary Care providers. (1-2 times per month)

Phlebotomist
Our Main Clinic and Mobile Medical Van are both in need of certified Phlebotomists to assist Providers and MAs with blood draws.  BLS/CPR certification required (if you are not BLS certified, Outside In can help you complete the required training).

Tattoo Removal Provider
Provide laser tattoo removal services to low-income clients, with priority given to gang, hate, drug, criminal, and domestic-violence related tattoos. Accepting those with active DO, MD, ND, or NP licenses.

Physical Therapist
Provide physical therapy treatment to low-income, homeless, and/or uninsured clients.
