Hope and Healing
Of the estimated 2,000 youth experiencing homelessness in Portland/Multnomah County, the majority come from the greater metropolitan area and throughout Oregon. Youth end up on the street for multiple reasons: Family poverty, violence, mental and physical illness in their families, sexual minority issues, unemployment, domestic violence, and sexual abuse are just some of the contributing factors. Other youth simply find themselves abandoned by their parents.
Youth experiencing homelessness are forced to be independent on average a full decade before their housed peers.
Everyone has a dream. For a young adult experiencing homelessness, that dream simply may be to have a safe, warm place to sleep. Or it may be to find a job. Others want to go to college, knowing it is their best shot at long-term change. Outside In is committed to making these dreams a reality.
Outside In provides youth with the hope, confidence, and skills necessary to build stable lives. We treat our participants with respect and believe in them. They can and do turn their lives around.
We know young people need trusting adults to thrive.
