Today, Outside In needs your support more than ever, as we address the COVID-19 pandemic. We are committed to providing essential services to those who will be harmed the most during this crisis and in the months that follow. We hope you’ll consider making a gift so people like Courtney can have a brighter future.

Dear Friend,

When I was just 16, I got pregnant and was left to fend for myself and my baby. After escaping domestic violence, my son Aidan and I lived in a tiny, two-door Honda Civic in Beaverton for months. Nobody wants to be in danger. If I hadn’t found Outside In, and if not for people like you, I might not be here today.

Thankfully, a friend told me about Outside In’s transitional housing program. Housing at Outside In is so much more than a roof over your head. The staff is helpful and amazing. They were always there for us anticipating our needs, all the way down to clothes and books for Aidan. Finally, we weren’t hungry anymore and we were safe.

Outside In also addressed our health care needs. Their clinic welcomes everyone—people from all walks of life. They even helped me and Aidan get signed up for the Oregon Health Plan.

Generous people like you make all of this possible. Because of you, our basic needs were met and my life stabilized enough that I could focus on the future. At Outside In’s employment and education center, I was able to prepare for jobs and enter an accelerated Medical Assistant program. After eight months of classes, I got an externship at the OHSU Neurology Department, working five days a week alongside doctors.

I love being able to help people and make them feel even just a little better. I’m getting my associate’s degree online and my bachelor’s after that—then I plan to pursue a Registered Nurse program.

A few weeks ago, with the help of my case manager, I moved from Outside In’s housing and into an apartment in the community! I’m 21 now, and things are looking great for Aidan and me. We’re in our own apartment, it’s beautiful, and I’m days away from completing my externship and on my way to becoming a nurse.

Please make a gift to Outside In today. You can change the course of someone’s life, just like mine.

With Warm Thanks,

Courtney
