Outside In is making a difference in our community providing a wide range of health services, supportive housing and much more.
Let’s face it – 2021 was a challenging year! We endured a global pandemic, wildfires, ice storms and civil unrest. Yet our doors at Outside In remained open with no interruptions, providing critical and sometimes life-saving services to those in need.
In September 2021, we celebrated one year of service at our East Portland Clinic on 162nd and East Burnside. In just a short time, our presence in this culturally rich and vibrant community has already made a tremendous impact and demonstrates our commitment to identifying and responding to the needs of our communities. For example, we recently expanded our primary care services at East to include reproductive and pediatric health services. In total, our clinics provided primary health services to nearly 4,000 patients.
Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, we kept our youth employment and education programs up and running seamlessly. And we continued to provide a safe and welcoming place for youth clients ensuring they have access to the many programs and services we provide. We’re incredibly proud that we were able to provide safe and stable housing to more than 150 youth and that 93% of graduates from Outside In’s housing program went on to secure permanent, stable housing.
Here’s a by-the-numbers snapshot of what we achieved:

- 1,012 youth experiencing homelessness accessed resources, developed supportive relationships, and built skills to change their lives and create futures
- 3,394 patients received primary care services with 948 enrolling in health insurance
- 10,751 behavior health appointments were conducted
- 82 volunteers gave a whopping 3,041 hours of their time
- Total giving was an impressive $3,423,841
What an incredible year it was for Outside In. We are so appreciative and grateful to everyone who helped make 2021 one of our best years ever despite the numerous obstacles we’ve had to overcome. We’re inspired by and grateful to our incredible staff, dedicated volunteers, and generous supporters. We could not have done it without you!
